The Sound of Silence: NextGen Communications
A key aspect of the FAA's NextGen concept is a vastly different method of communicating between the cockpit and the ground. Beginning in 2015, some routine communications will be handled in a remarkably different way. "The current method of pilot-controller communication is via voice. But NextGen involves a migration from voice to transmitting controller messages via text," says John Kefaliotis, Vice President of Next Generation Transportation Systems at ITT Exelis. In 2011, No Clear Resolution on EU-ETS
With the advent of 2012 comes Europe's implementation of one of the most controversial programs in the history of civil aviation. In an attempt to curb generation of greenhouse gases, the European Union put into effect its Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) on New Year's Day. Read the full article.
